A lot of invalid and pompous theories have been fabricated about the origins of Mahjong. Both China and the world seem to have decided to embellish the truth by using their crazy imagination and going as far as to make up the fact that Confucius may have invented the game to then go on to impress western merchants who immediately spread it about the world. All this ranting is, of course, nothing but nonsense to impress potential customers. As a matter of fact and according to real evidence, there is no evidence whatsoever that Mah Jong existed at all before 1880. From then on, Mahjong became increasingly popular amongst the Chinese but it wasn't until the early 1920s that the game would be found by westerners and ever since then it has been spreading all over the world where it also became popular.
